First Saltie Arrives in Twin Ports

Will be Loading up on Grain and Heading to Italy

DULUTH, Minn.-The first saltie arrived in the Twin Ports over the weekend.

The event is the unofficial kick-off to the shipping season.

The ship the Lake Ontario, will load up on grain and then set sail for Italy on Tuesday. The ship’s captain told us it was smooth sailing most of the way.

“The voyage was good,” said Captain Costelus Morosanu. “I came at least two times in the Great Lakes… so it’s a little bit difficult when we pass the locks.”

The crew received gifts from the community for being the first saltie in port.
