Video of Ice Skaters on Duluth Trail Goes Viral

DULUTH, Minn. —

If you’ve been on social media in the past week or so, maybe you’ve seen this video.

Five friends out on the trail at Lester Park in Duluth, but they’re not hiking the trail.

They’re ice skating!

Since the video was originally posted on Facebook, it has been shared by the likes of Buzzfeed and pages like “NowThis.”

The video has been viewed more than 26 million times on Facebook alone.

“It was pretty surreal,” said Andrew Kilness, the person who shot the video using a digital camcorder with a steady cam.  “I didn’t really expect this many people to watch it.  It’s pretty cool to see everyone talking about Duluth and telling their friends and saying ‘Oh we need to go there, let’s do this; let’s try this!’”

Kilness says he and his friends shot the video in early March.

Since going viral, he says he has been overjoyed that so many people are sharing and talking about the cool things up North.

“That’s really exciting to be able to share Duluth and show off how awesome the city itself is,” Kilness said.  “There’s a lot of things to do out here and it’s fun to see the whole world have Duluth in their minds.”

The trails have since thawed, but are currently closed due to soggy conditions.
