Duluth Fire Causes Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars in Damage

DULUTH, Minn. – A house in Duluth went up in flames Monday night and the fire spread next door.

The Duluth Fire Department got a call at 10 p.m. for a structure fire at 2008 W. 3rd St.

While en route, firefighters were notified of possibly trapped occupants. Upon arrival we found heavy fire coming from the rear of the house

When they arrived they found heavy fire coming from the rear of the house.

The fire quickly spread to another home at 2006 W. 3rd St.

The house at 2006 W. 3rd St. was currently being remodeled after a previous fire.

The homeowner of the 2008 W. St. location, Jon Cieluch, was heading to bed when he heard a loud explosion coming from his back porch.

Cieluch went outside to investigate, saw flames, and was able to escape succesfully with his girlfriend.

“I just heard a bunch of noise and all of a sudden my back porch was on fire. I’m lost right now. I’m watching my house go up in flames so I don’t know what to do,” Cieluch told FOX 21.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.

Due to the size of the fire and the possible rescue, a second alarm for more manpower was called.
The primary searches confirmed the houses were void of people.

Both houses had to have holes cut in the roofs.

Crews knocked down the main bodies of fire and continued to find hidden pockets of fire in the wall spaces and attics of both houses.
Firefighters remained on scene for three hours.

Combined damage is estimated to be between $100,000 and $120,000.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Duluth Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s Office.
