1 Dead, 4 Injured in Solway Township Crash

DULUTH, Minn. – Early Monday morning, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a one vehicle accident in Solway Township.

Officers arrived to the scene at Canosia Road and West Arrowhead Road, and located five occupants of a vehicle that had left the roadway and over turned.

A 19-year-old passenger, identified as Axton Whitfield, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Four others were transported to the hospital with what are being reported as non-life threatening injuries.

The 18-year-old driver is currently under investigation for driving while under the influence, criminal vehicular homicide, and criminal vehicular operation.

The three other passengers have been identified as Colin Ganem, 20, Terrance Wenzel, 19, and Dallas Vrooman, 20.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
