Community Bids Farewell To Cloquet Middle School Building

CLOQUET, Minn. – Students and alumni gathered at the Cloquet Middle School to say goodbye to the school as they know it.  The middle school held a closing ceremony today to honor the building that hosted many young students over the last one hundred years.

“My generation of course, my parents, my grand parents, this building has been here in one shape or form,” Americorps Promise Fellow, William Bauer said.

The event included music from the middle school band, a time capsule presentation, and a flag lowering ceremony. After the ceremony, the community was invited to check out their old stomping grounds before the keys are handed over to the new owners.

“I’ve been a student in the building, I’ve taught in this building, and now I’m the principal of this building,” Principal Tom Brenner said. “We’ve been so busy building the new building, you kind of forget this building is going away. It’s bittersweet – every time there’s a last. The last time we’re gonna do this, last time for this. It’s a really bittersweet time of year as we get ready to shut it down.”

Cloquet Middle School students will be moving to the new building next fall.
