Two Harbors Science Lab Brings High-Tech Jobs To The Northland
BRTI Life Sciences Creates and Sells Products Used for Stem Cell Research
TWO HARBORS, Minn. – A science lab in Two Harbors is on the cutting edge of some important bio-medical work.
BRTI Life Sciences is having success with their Stem Cell related technology. The lab creates and sells products other companies use for cell research.
In the process, BRTI is bringing high-tech jobs to Northern Minnesota.
Their Cell Mate devices are sold to researchers across the country and allow labs to study cells in a three-dimensional environment.
“That’s the idea, to grow cells for the study for pharmaceutical purposes, for study of disease, in an environment that more closely approximates the real animal,” says BRTI Chief Scientific Officer John Brekke.
Over their five year history, BRTI has carved a space in the cutting edge of medical technology right in Two Harbors.
“You don’t have to be in Downtown St. Paul, you don’t have to be in Silicon Valley,” says BRTI Chemist Mike Knuth. “You can do it right here and, not only is it wonderful for employees, especially the ones that like to live here, but it’s also great for the local economy.”
The lab sees big things on their horizon, and the founders hope their success can bring more well paying jobs that keep recent college graduates in the Northland.
