Retired Teachers, Faculty From Cloquet Schools Share Memories

CLOQUET, Minn. — Earlier this morning, the library at Cloquet Middle School was filled with memories and stories.

Retired teachers and staff members from the Cloquet School District share coffee and pastries, provided by Gordy’s Warming House, as they reminisce about the past.

“Even though we are a small town, you don’t always see everybody.  This is a great way to connect and tell the stories of the ‘Remember when…’ and ‘What we did back then…’” said Jeannie Kermeen, executive director of the Cloquet Educational Foundation.

Kermeen organized the event this year.

This retiree coffee party has grown quite popular over the years, with dozens in attendance.

“I’ve met teachers that have had my husband as a student, that have had both my daughters,” Kermeen said.  “So it’s really been fun to talk to them and see what they did then, and what they’re doing now.”

This year’s retiree coffee party is a little bittersweet.

It’ll be the last to be held in Cloquet Middle School.

The school closed its doors to students for the final time earlier this week.
