Coast Guard Announces Twin Ports Safety Zones for 4th of July Fireworks


DULUTH/SUPERIOR – The United States Coast Guard has announced two safety zones for boaters on the water for the annual Duluth Fourth Fest and the Superior 4th of July Fireworks display on Tuesday.

Safety zones for Duluth will go into effect from approximately 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday, July 4th, 2017 in the northwestern section of Duluth Harbor in the vicinity of the Georgia Pacific pier.

The safety zone is an 840-foot radius around the fireworks launch site at 46°46′14″ N, 092°06′16″ W.

Safety zones for Superior will go into effect from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the Superior Front Channel in the vicinity of Baker’s Island. The safety zone includes a 600 foot radius around the fireworks launch site at 46°43′28″ N, 092°03′38″ W.

Safety zones will prohibit navigation by commercial and recreational waterway users during this time, except for persons authorized by the Coast Guard patrol. No person of vessel shall enter or remain in the safety zone without permission.

Boaters should expect vessels to be in this area and take extra precaution when transiting the area around the event.
