Campsites and Marinas Full for 4th of July

Experts Advise on How to Have Fun While Still Being Safe

DULUTH, Minn.- With Sunshine, Cook-outs, Camping and family time, the 4th of July is a busy weekend for places like Spirit Marina in Duluth.

“We came in Yesterday. We came for the fire works,” said Josee Trelinski, a visitor.

“We’ve been booked solid for at least the last month,” said Robert J Cavanaugh, the Harbor Master at Spirit Lake Marina.

The site is popular for both people who are just camping or taking their boats out for a spin.

“You’re by the lake, you’re by the water. The atmosphere is fantastic,” said Dale Trelinski, Josee’s husband.

But with all the excitement, experts warn beach goers and campers that it’s important to stay safe while boating.

“People don’t realize driving a boat can be just as dangerous if not more dangerous than driving a car,” said Cavanaugh.

Some tips include making sure there is a lifejacket for everyone on the boat, make sure your water plug is in before you launch the boat, and not operating watercrafts while intoxicated, because having fun should never come at the expense of staying safe, but it’s possible to have both.
