People March to Raise Awareness of Veteran Suicide

Around 20 Veterans Die by Suicide Each Day

DULUTH, Minn.- Though it was rainy today, around 50 people braved the elements and marched to raise awareness of Veteran suicide.

Veterans, Community members and active service members joined together for a Ruck March. The participants walked approximately 6 and a half miles from Lester Park in Duluth, through Hawks Ridge, and back to the park. The goal of the event was to highlight the high number of veteran suicide that happens every day across the Nation.

“I don’t think the civilian world realizes what an important role they play in ending veteran suicide. We’re trying to reintegrate better in the civilian world but the civilian world needs the support in return. So kind of breaking down some of those barriers and developing those relationships goes a long way,” said Travis Birr of Operation: 23 to Zero.

Studies show around 20 veterans die by suicide each day.
