Local Leaders Seek Community Input on Future of Canal Park

Imagine Canal Park 2035

DULUTH, Minn. – Imagine Canal Park is a new initiative with the goal to make that area a spot for residents and not just tourists.

In June, Duluth received a grant from the Knight Foundation to look at ways to further engage and create a common public space for residents to increase social interaction and connect with their city.

The goals are to:

  • To increase usage of Canal Park year-round.
  • To determine the best activities and programming that help to connect citizens of different backgrounds.
  • To create common pedestrian oriented gathering spaces that build social capital and connections between people.

The city has set a series of public events and input sessions planned for this week.

Imagine Canal Park is hosting a launch party tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the parking lot across from Little Angie’s Cantina.

This event is free and open to the public to gather thoughts on the future of Canal Park.

There will be food, games and family-friendly events.
