Northlanders Take on Firefighter Challenge

The event had obsticle courses for kids and adults

VIRGINIA, Minn. – The Iron Range community had the chance to train like firefighters on Saturday. It was the first ever Firefighter Challenge at the Mesabi Family YMCA. The free event had challenge courses that kids and adults could test out their skills on. Competitors wore weighted vests and air packs to get an idea of what the Virginia and Mountain Iron firefighters go through at their jobs every day.

“It’s not only a fitness challenge but it gives you a good idea of what these guys have to go through on the job,” Mesabi Family YMCA’s Samantha Hadley said. “I think often times we forget how difficult their jobs are so this gives everyone a nice reminder of how tough their job can be.”

The Mesabi Family YMCA would like to make it a yearly event.
