Local Relief Heading to Hurricane Victims in the Caribbean
International Falls Nurse Going to Caribbean to Help Hurricane Victims
DULUTH, Minn. – Last month multiple hurricanes blasted their way through much of the Caribbean including the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
Recovery efforts are just beginning down there and today, one International Falls resident decided to lend a hand.
John Decker is a registered nurse and isn’t sure which location he’s going to yet, as he heads out today. No matter where he goes, he wants to help those hurting the most.
“It’s pretty tough to sit and watch what’s going on, so when I get the call requesting me to go, I had vacation time for the deer season and there’s no way I could sit in a deer stand while people are suffering,” said John Decker, the health services manager for the local Red Cross.
Decker also helped provide medical care to the Hurricane Harvey victims where he was deployed for three weeks in Houston.
