Apple Lovers Flock to Erickson Orchards and Country Store
Bayfield Apple Festival will Run Friday, Saturday and Sunday October 6 - 8
BAYFIELD, Wisc. – This weekend thousands are making their way to Bayfield, Wisconsin, as the community will once again host their 56th Annual Apple Festival.
The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce predicts nearly 60,000 visitors to make their way through the town during the three day festival.
With all the hustle and bustle comes excitement from the Erickson family.
Erickson Orchards started over 100 years ago. Now, third generation owner Fred Erickson has taken over the production from his father Jim Erickson.
Jim still remembers the very first Apple Festival, which he helped create.
“The first year we pulled in 4,000 people, we didn’t know what the heck we were doing, but we did it anyway! Now I’m very happy my son took our farm over, he’s got a lot of good ideas,” said Erickson.
Fred Erickson says it takes dozens of helping hands year-round to make this weekend possible.
Eight pickers will be working hard to keep harvesting bushels of apples throughout the weekend.
Erickson says if you can’t make it to Apple Fest, there’s much more picking to go.
“We’re going to be picking for another couple weeks anyway. I have a lot of apples left on the trees and we’re picking as fast as we can. You don’t think it’s going to happen but we get them all in,” said Erickson.
Within the last few years, Fred and his team have worked to develop new flavors of their homemade apple cider.
The orchard will have live music along with food and fun activities happening all weekend long.
