Super One and Second Harvest Team Up for Milk Drive
DULUTH, Minn.-Shoppers at area Super One stores can help kids, families, and seniors in need, to get milk into their fridges at home.
Super One has partnered with Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank for this milk drive; it’s part of a nationwide effort called the Great American Milk Drive.
Shoppers can purchase vouchers at the register at Super One markets.
These vouchers are given out to those in need to be redeemed for half and full gallon jugs of Super One or Kemps brand milk.
“It’s really nice for our participants,” said Second Harvest Executive Director Shaye Morris. “They can take a voucher to the grocery store when they’re shopping, pick up the milk that they need – when they need it. And it certainly provides just a great nutrient-rich product for them and their families.”
Second Harvest says a drive like this is a good way to kick start their busy holiday season.
“Certainly this time of year we’re kind of ramping up for that season,” Morris said. “There’s more demand as the home heating season kicks in and people are paying utilities.”
This is the second year for the Great American Milk Drive.
Last year, grocery shoppers raised more than $37,000 dollars-worth of milk vouchers in our area alone.
Nationwide last year, 1.4 million gallons of milk were purchased through this initiative.
