Fire Prevention Safety Week Begins

Fire Department Leaders Say to Practice Fire Drills at Home Twice a Year

SUPERIOR, Wis.-Throughout the country this week, fire safety will be on the minds of many.

That’s because it’s Fire Prevention Safety Week.

Local experts we spoke to today said this year’s theme is “Every Second Counts, Plan Two Ways Out.”

They advise families to practice fire drills twice a year. The Superior Fire Department says this seems like simple advice, but people often forget to do it because they are so busy.

“In everybody’s, busy everyday life, fire safety isn’t something everybody thinks about everyday which is part of the reason we have fire prevention week, to get everyone thinking again about fire safety,” said Steve Edwards, battalion chief for the Superior Fire Department.

Over the next few weeks the fire departments in Superior will be visiting elementary schools in that area to teach them about fire safety.
