Duluth Council Approves Fire Department Overtime, Salt Purchase

Both Resolutions Passed by City Council Last Night

DULUTH, Minn.-$375,000 was approved by the Duluth City Council last night, to fund extra overtime needs for the fire department.

By a 6-2 vote, councilors approved the ordinance. Fire department officials said it was needed because many of their employees were gone for a variety of reasons including military leave, and lack of staffing due to injuries.

Originally, the fire department was supposed to get $668,000.

Salt Purchased

This morning’s frost warning is serving as reminder the winter season will be here soon.

Last night, the Duluth City Council kept winter in mind by purchasing 5,100 tons of salt from Morton Salt.

It’s expected to cost the city about $177,000.
