After Months of Construction, Aldi Duluth is Now Open for Business
DULUTH, Minn. – It’s official, grocery shoppers in the Northland now have one more Aldi location to add to their list.
Thursday morning hundreds of people lines up to be the first ones through the door of the new Duluth location
Now it’s time to grab your quarters and dig out the eco-bags.
Store representatives say the Duluth location is part of a $3.4 billion dollar investment plan Aldi recently announced to grow 2,500 stores across the nation by the end of 2022.
The chain currently has more than 1,600 stores in 35 states, serving more than 40 million people each month.
“My new puppy gave me the drive to be here, he got me up at 3:00a.m.,” said Larry Volkenant.
Isles packed with fresh produce, canned goods and dramatic deals enticed Volkenant to be one of the first 100 customers to walk through the doors of Aldi Duluth.
His new golden retriever, Buddy, helped him to become number one in line as he arrived at 4:30 a.m.
Volkenant has never stepped foot inside the discount grocer, but decided to give it a go after hearing good things.
“I’ve got a daughter in Superior that likes the Aldi there and I thought for sure I’d check them out and see the selection and check on their prices. It’s got a nice layout, nice selection and I’m impressed,” said Volkenant.
Larry lucked out, receiving $100 dollars in gift cards for being the first in line. The first 100 shoppers also received a golden ticket, good for deals and even free gift cards.
Regional Vice President Matt Lilla says the company is more than thrilled to be expanding in the Northland.
“We have incredible prices and that’s what people lined up for Thursday morning is to come get the unbelievable deals we offer, everyday low prices,” said Lilla.
The new store is located near the Miller Hill Mall.
Representatives tell FOX 21 within the next one to two years, the company plans to open stores in Virginia and Cloquet.
