Matteen, Eskomos Freezing Out Competition

Esko Senior Making Major Impact

ESKO, Minn- Ground and pound offenses are typical for many northland high school football teams.

However, for the Eskomos of Esko, it’s all about the big air. Which is just fine for senior wide-receiver Branden Matteen. After a setback in 2016, Esko looks back to from this season, boasting an undefeated conference record and just a single loss all year.

That’s in no small part to the 3 sport athletes contributions.

Playing on both sides of the ball, Matteen has played everything from quarterback to running back, to his favorite position at wide–receiver. One of the biggest differences this season has been finding his partner in crime in senior Quinn Fisher, and the two have proven a lethal combination in the field. Now, with section play just around the corner, Esko is well on their way to achieving their mission to turn U.S. Bank Stadium into an igloo.

As for Matteens future, like many northland athletes, he’ll have to choose between the glory of the gridiron, and his love of the ice.
