First Phase of Belknap Project Nearing Completion

Construction Will be Finished Before Flakes Fly

SUPERIOR, Wis.-Businesses along Belknap street are breathing a sigh of relief today.

That’s because the first phase of a road construction project there is nearing completion.

The section from Banks to John Avenue recently opened while some landscaping from Caitlin to John Avenue continues.

It’s expected the first phase will be completed before the snow flies which has businesses along the corridor happy.

“We noticed we had a significant drop in traffic from the Twin Cities area that were coming through going to different places because they got detoured over the 53 bridge instead of the 2 bridge,” said Scott Miller of Northwest Outlet. “It just kind of hurt us a little bit that way.”

The Belnap project is replacing 1.4 miles of concrete roadways, upgrading the storm sewer system, and improving safety on the street.

Next spring, the middle portion of the project will begin.
