Faith Community Steps Up For Family Dealing With ALS

Co-workers host fundraiser to help pay ALS medical expenses.

SUPERIOR, Wis.- Sunday staff at the Catholic Diocese of Superior, went the extra mile to help support the Strugala family.

Adam Strugala is one of their co-workers and his wife, Halina was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Currently ALS has no cure, but can be slowed down. Medical expenses for the Strugala family, quickly rack up. Today’s spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Saint Francis Xavier Church in Superior, aimed to help with the expenses.

“We’re all wondering one day, how come no one has done a benefit for him yet. So we approached him at work and he said because of their culture they don’t ask for money,” organizer/co–worker Janelle Roe said. “So we thought we’re going to do it anyway because that’s our culture here in Superior.”
The couple are from Poland but the Twin Ports have been their home since the 1980s.

“I was surprised that they wanted to do it,” employee/husband Adam Strugala said.”Because you have to have people that are willing to put in a lot of work, and a lot of time to plan event like this.”

The fundraiser was packed, Adam’s fellow employees; made items for a bake sale, put together baskets for a silent auction, and booked a band.

On-goers were asked to make donations. If you missed the event but wish to help the Strugala family, stop by the parish office.
