Solon Springs Airport Makes Upgrades

The Runway Was Resurfaced and a Helipad Was Added

SOLON SPRINGS, Wis. – The Solon Springs airport recently made some big upgrades and more improvements could be coming soon.

The runway was completely replaced last year. More recently, the airport added a self service fueling station and the only lighted helipad between Duluth and Madison.

The whole project cost more than $1.1 million. Most of that money came from the Federal Government.

“Any commercial business that wants to come to Solon Springs, certainly the first thing they look for is it accessible by air,” said Neil Mathison, chairman of the Solon Springs Airport Commission. “So, they want to come in by air transportation and that’s a very important factor in economic development.”

“We’re up to about four thousand operations a year, a lot of people that have cabins fly in and built hangars and we’re hoping to see a lot more growth in the future.”

In the future, airport officials would like to extend the runway to make it usable to jet traffic.
