City Roads Ready for Winter

The roads are clear right now, but soon Northlanders will have their first snowy drive of the season.

DULTUH, Minn.- The first snowfall can be excited, but it requires some extra attention on the road.

The roads are clear right now, but soon Northlanders will have their first snowy drive of the season. The city of Duluth is prepared for the conditions. Trucks started off the morning laying black top to fill potholes, within a couple hours its transformed, ready to clear the roads. Although some switch-overs are done last minute, others begin in the summer.

“Our operation actually starts getting ready for the snowfall back in March, we start getting out our materials,” Street maintenance manager Greg Guerrero said. “We purchase 15 thousand tons of salt and sand and we mix them as we go through.”

The city has most of the graters and plows ready to go, prepared for anything from here on out. Driving in the winter can be dangerous, especially large machinery. Make sure to give snowplows a little extra room on the road.
