Apartments Planned for Old Cloquet Middle School

Development Company Secured Funding to Complete Project

CLOQUET, Minn. – A development company was awarded the financing needed to construct a new apartment complex in the old Cloquet Middle School building on Carlton Avenue.

The proposed development will include fifty-seven units of housing, both market rate and affordable.

It’s expected to fill a housing need in Cloquet and will allow the school district to save $1.3 million they would have used to demolish the building.

“This project at least allows a building like this that’s architecturally significant in its character to this neighborhood to be reused in another manner and stay in the neighborhood,” said Holly Hansen, Cloquet Community Development Director.

Before the plan moves forward, the developers must complete a historic review process.

After that the city’s planning commission and city council will need to approve the project.
