Mall of America Closing on Thanksgiving

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Mall of America, the largest shopping complex in the nation, has announced it will be closed on Thanksgiving for the second year in a row.

The mall made the announcement on Thursday and stated it will be making Black Friday a “seventh holiday” for its employees. Those who work directly for the MOA and Nickelodeon Universe will receive holiday pay for working Black Friday.

“As the busiest day in the retail industry, we believe Mall of America employees dedicating their time on Black Friday should be rewarded with holiday pay,” MOA executives said in a statement.

While the holiday does not impact the employees of the 520 stores, restaurants, and attractions, the mall says there will be a special holiday addition in December for these employees.

The MOA will reopen at 5 a.m. on Black Friday, the first 200 guests at the North Entrance will receive a MOA gift card valued between $10-$500.
