22-Year-Old Convenience Store Owner Expanding His Chain

Derek Medved Owns Gary Milkhouse and Two Former Lakehead Oil Locations

DULUTH, Minn. – A 22 year old entrepreneur is expanding his business.

Derek Medved has owned the Gary Milkhouse for the last three and a half years and he just bought two more convenience stores to add to his chain.

The former Lakehead Oil locations in Hermantown and Chisholm will now become his own “Korner Stores.”

“We’re a locally owned neighborhood store,” said Medved. “We know Joe down the block. We know Sammy up the block and that’s the beauty of it, you just get to know your customers and the friendships you build, the relationships, nothing can compare to that.”

“Love what I do, absolutely love what I do. I’ve probably worked now a year and a half straight without any days off and there’s no complaints on my end. It’s the beauty of it. You wake up and you want to come to work.”

Medved says he has no plans to buy more stores, but he’s always open to new opportunities.
