UWS Hosts Program to Learn About Veteran Students

"Green Zone" Training Is Part of the University's Veteran Week

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UWS Veteran and Non-Traditional Student Center hosted a “Green Zone” training program.

The session teaches students and staff members more about veterans on their campus, including military terminology and how the G.I. bills help them pay for their education.

“Working with a student veteran is very different than maybe your traditional student out there, so being able to know what some of those experiences were and being able to connect that back to the student they’re working with, after going through this training, I think that ‘s really important for them,” said Monte Stewart, Student Services Coordinator for the Veteran and Non-Traditional Student Center.

“Each veteran has a different experience so, I think it’s been good to get in different student veterans that have been in different branches so that they can talk about their differences and that showcases and highlights that every veteran is unique and has a different experience.”

The UWS Veteran Week continues all week long. On Friday, the University will host their annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony.
