Police Investigating Homicide in Lavell Township

HIBBING, Minn. – The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a woman who was found in her home last week.

According to police, the woman was identified as 71-year-old Courtney Lee Fenske of Lavell Township, just southeast of Hibbing. Preliminary autospy results from the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office indicates that Fenske died as a result of homicide.

Deputies discovered Fenske deceased in her home in the 11000 block of S. Townline Road, on Nov. 29, after a concerned citizen requested a welfare check on Fenske.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, investigators believe Fenske died sometime between Sunday, Nov. 26 and Monday, Nov. 27.

No one is in custody at this time. The investigation is currently being conducted by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota BCA.

Investigators are asking anyone that had recent contact with Fenske or observed anything suspicious in the area during this timeline, to call the St. Louis County 911 Center at 218-742-9825.
