Christmas City Express Train Ride Closes Its Season

According to Train Museum Officials, About 1,000 Passengers Rode Each Week

DULUTH, Minn. – The Lake Superior Railroad Museum just had the final night of their holiday train ride.

At the event, families watch a performance of the “Christmas City Express” story acted out by the authors and Santa Claus.

Then, they board a decorated train and ride it from the Depot to Fitger’s and back, passing Bentleyville along the way.

“I think the best part is getting to ride a real train and then going to see Santa, it’s like magical for them,” said a parent bringing her kids on the ride.

Railroad museum officials tell us about a thousand passengers have ridden the Christmas City Express each of the last four weekends.

They’re proud to be part of everything the Northland has to offer this time of year.

“We’re very fortunate here in Duluth that we have so much to do for the holidays,” said Ken Buehler, Executive Director of the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. “Obviously a shopping and vacation destination but you combine Bentleyville and Christmas City Express and everything else and this really is the Christmas City of the North.”

On the final night, some families got to ride the train for free because museum donors bought tickets for local non-profits.
