Fire Causes Significant Damage at Home Being Remodeled on Old Hwy 61

MIDWAY TWP, Minn. – Any early morning fire Tuesday, caused significant damage to a home in the 5300 block of Old Hwy 61 in Midway Township, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, the 911 call came in from a passerby around 6:35 a.m., who also stopped to make sure no one was inside the residence.

Crews responded and learned the house was recently purchased and was unoccupied and being remodeled. The home sustained significant damage that was contained to the garage and attic crawl space.

The preliminary investigation revealed the home was heated with a wood stove during the renovation project and it is believed this was the origin of the fire.

No injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
