Great Lakes Iron Ore Shipping Up 11 Percent in 2017

Highest Total Recorded Since 2012

 CLEVELAND-More than 60 million tons of iron ore were shipped on the Great Lakes in 2017, a 10.9 percent increase over 2016.

It was the highest total recorded since 2012.

The Lake Superior ports that go through the Soo Locks saw their loadings increase by 9.9 million tons, which is 23.6 percent.

Shipments from Canadian ports in the St. Lawrence Seaway totaled 4.6 million tons, a decrease of 12.4 percent.
