Local Historical Center Receives Two Grants

The grants will help upgrade the center and educational programs.

SUPERIOR, Wis.- The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior has received two grants totaling $30,000.

The first grant of $20,000 is from a private foundation, that money will help update the 15 year old audio and visual equipment at the center. The center creates videos that help tell the stories of veterans in the Northland. The other grant willl expand youth center programs.

“The youth programs are really key because you stop being this museum place where you want to come once and a while, you become a community center,” executive director Hayes Scriven said. “Where we’re engaging the youth of our community and having them actively participate in what we’re doing.”

The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation awards the second grant, of $10,000. This will help create traveling educational trunks for presentations at schools.
