NorShor Theatre Officially Opens
Thursday Night is the Historic Duluth Theatre's First Performance of Mama Mia
DULUTH, Minn. – The NorShor Theatre officially opened Wednesday.
The velvet rope was unhooked, ushering in a new era for the historic art-deco theatre.
The restoration process has taken several years including nineteen months of renovations.
“This was kind of an old, tired, dilapidated icon in our downtown and to have the ability to come in and restore it to its full glory is kind of a great thing,” said Herb Minke, Duluth Playhouse Board Chair.
Duluth Playhouse officials hope the six hundred seat venue will make it possible for more people to see theatre than ever before.
All those audience members and artists are also expected to help business in Downtown Duluth.
“To see this one come to life again and to see that marquee lit up, I think it puts a sense of pride in everybody’s heart and I think it’s just something that everyone will embrace and won’t be able to wait to be able to get in the doors,” said Kristi Stokes, President of the Greater Downtown Council.
The NorShor will host its first performance of Mama Mia on Thursday, February 1st.
