UMD Students to Perform in Annual Bands Concert

DULUTH, Minn. – This weekend the musical talents of UMD students will be on display for the Annual Bands Concert.

During the concert, two bands, The UMD Concert Band, which is made up of primarily non-music music majors, and the UMD Symphonic Wind Ensemble, perform.

Mark Whitlock, the Director of Bands, Trombone and Graduate Studies visited FOX 21 to discuss the concert.

Whitlock says it’s rewarding to work with these students.

The concert is taking place on Sunday, February 18 at 3 p.m.

The bands will present works by John Phillip Sousa (“The Thunderer”), Vincent Persichetti, and David Maslanka (“Mother Earth”) among others.

It’s taking place in Weber Music Hall.
