Former Duluth and Superior Mayor Arrested

Herb Bergson Arrested Yesterday in Douglas County

SUPERIOR, Wis.-Sheriff Tom Dalbec of Douglas County says former Duluth and Superior Mayor Herb Bergson was booked into Douglas County Jail yesterday just after 5 p.m. for allegedly leaving the scene, after crashing his vehicle into a tree somewhere in Douglas County.

Information on where the incident occurred is still not available, according to Dalbec.

Dalbec said, after the crash, Bergson was later found at his cabin on Lake Nebagamon.

Bergson is expected to be in court this afternoon. Douglas County Attorney Mark Fruehauf said Bergson’s been charged with obstructing an officer and failure to install an ignition interlock device, which is related to DUIs Bergson had in the past. Both charges are misdemeanors.

According to the Douglas County Jail, Bergson currently lives in Madison.
