The Curling Effect
Curling equipment is flying off the shelves while the Winter Olympics are going.
DULUTH, Minn.-During the Winter Olympics curling spectators can watch at home, sparking newcomers and experienced curlers to give the sport a try.
All you really need are shoes and a broom. More advanced curlers suit up in stretch pants, gloves and a helmet. The Lakeside Curling Supplies Shop has it all, including the same broom as team U.S.A
“The curlers that have been curling for 25 to 30 years, they’re seeing what the new equipment is,” Lakeside Curling Supplies Owner Tony Lasky said. “Maybe they want to try something that’s like a lighter carbon fiber broom or the latest shoes.”
For one full year the Duluth Curling Club gives newcomers a broom and slip on sliders, for your shoes. Thursday morning at 5 a.m. the Duluth Olympic curlers are competing for a medal.
