Shots Fired in Eveleth Leads to Arrest

EVELETH, Minn.-The Eveleth Police Department made an arrest at about 8 p.m. last night after a report of a bullet striking a home there.

The police were dispatched to 618 Adams Ave. after a homeowner heard a loud “bang.” Officers were able to locate a bullet that penetrated an upstairs window, went through a hallway, and into a bedroom. Several people were inside the home at the time, but no one was injured.

Officers then determined the bullet could have come from a residence at 619 A Ave., across the alley from the residence that was shot into.  Officers then went to that residence and they were told by a family member that their son was in the house.

“The son was identified as a 41-year-old male who had previously been living in Virginia and recently evicted,” the Eveleth police said in a statement. “Officers were able to make brief contact with the male who retreated to the upstairs of the residence and commented ‘Do not confront me.’  The homeowners verified there were guns inside the residence, one being a 30-30 rifle.  Officers then cleared the area around the residence and set up a perimeter.”

Attempts were made to contact the man in the home to exit the residence. After several hours, the man exited the residence without incident. He is now awaiting formal charges.
