Twin Ports Walleye Association Promotes Fishing & River Restoration Through Tournament

DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Fishing Opener just took place this past weekend and thousands of fishermen and women took to the lakes to reel in a big one.

A group of walleye lovers is also feeling that enthusiasm.

The Twin Ports Walleye Association (TPWA) will be hosting its 6th Annual Walleye Fishing Tournament on the St. Louis River May 19-20, 2018.

The tournament will start and culminate at Rice’s Point public boat access located on Garfield Avenue under the Blatnik Bridge.

The tournament entry fee is $100/boat.

Participants must be members of the TPWA. Membership information is available online at twinportswalleye.com.

This tournament is a catch-photo-release tournament with 100% of the fish released.

This year’s tournament headquarters will be out of Mr.D’s Bar and Grill as well as the Clyde Iron Event Center.

The rules meeting will be held Friday, May 18th at Mr. D’s Bar and grill with the awards ceremony and banquet at Clyde Iron.

This tournament is a Walleye Federation/National Tournament Championship (NTC) qualifying event.

The TPWA is made up of walleye anglers, both men and women, who share their enthusiasm for recreational as well as competitive walleye fishing in and around the Twin Ports.

The TPWA’s main focuses are education and protection of our fishing resources.

In addition, the TPWA promotes safe, ethical and enjoyment of the sport of walleye fishing.

The TPWA meets the second Tuesday of the month, at the VFW Post 137, 2023 West Michigan Street, at 7:00 p.m.

The TPWA has partnered with other local organizations such as, Take a Kid Fishing, Marine General Bob’s Bike Drive for Kids, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 137 and the Duluth areas Fishery Biologists supporting their clean-up efforts and restoration projects.

The TPWA will also be awarding its 5th annual $1000 scholarship at the awards banquet.

The scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior or a returning post-secondary student entering or continuing in the studies of an outdoor science.
