Kohlwey Places 3rd at Nationals

UMD Track member takes 3rd place in 100m hurdles

CHARLOTTE, NC- The Division 2 track and field national championships came to a close yesterday. Where UMD’s Danielle Kohlwey placed third in the 100m hurdles.

Heading into yesterday’s finals, Kohlwey was named an All-American for the second year in a row.

“I was just so grateful to have qualified again. I was All-American last year. I really wanted to better from last year to this year. So I was really happy to be in the finals because you have that comfort that as long as you finish in the finals, you’re an All-American because there’s only 8 in the finals” said Kohlwey.

Kohlwey placed second in the 100m hurdles preliminary round with a time of 13.51. In the finals Kohlwey finished 3rd with a time of 13.42. She just missed second place by a hundreth of a second!

But the junior seems unphazed by it. As reaching the finals was a victory in and of itself.

“I was thrilled. When i crossed the finish line i didn’t know if i got second or third or even fourth. I was just grateful to have the opportunity to be there for one.”
