Northland Uncovered: Grandma’s Marathon Viewing Train
The Grandma's Marathon Viewing Train will Leave the Duluth Depot at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 16
DULUTH, Minn. – This weekend thousands of fans will be packing the streets, waiting for their favorite athletes to pass by.
But did you know you can also witness Grandma’s Marathon from the tracks of the North Shore Scenic Railroad?
Tuesday morning on FOX 21 Local News, Lake Superior Railroad Museum Executive Director Ken Buehler stopped by to chat about the incredible opportunity.
During the ride, you’ll be able to keep up with your favorite runners, witnessing them at various checkpoints along the way.
This is the only train ride in the county that follows a marathon.

- 5:45 am: Depart Duluth Union Depot, enjoy food and drinks on the way to the starting line.
- 7:30 am: Watch the race begin! Follow alongside the elite runners for the first few miles of the race.
- 8:30-9:00 am: Option to de-board for Canal Park to catch the first Finishers of the race.
- 9:00 am: Return to Duluth Depot.
Coach Seats: $45

First Class Seats: $75
Includes: breakfast, snacks, two drink tickets (bloody mary bar), and a hosted excursion by Ken Buehler, along with radio coverage of the marathon event.
Optionally, wander your way from breakfast to the dome-lounge car called the “Silver Club” adjacent to the Diner. The downstairs area is a lounge available to first class passengers, along with the upstairs dome.
