DULUTH, Minn. – Community Action Duluth took it inside for a family BBQ to help with outreach for one of its employment programs.

Bridge to Employment helps provide people receiving cash and food assistance with employment services.

But it wasn’t all just business.

There were hot dogs, music and face painting.

Staff tell us this barbecue helps with the idea of being connected to the community.

“One of the reasons we’re having this BBQ is to talk about some upcoming culturally inclusive events we’re having. The next one isn’t until November,” said Bridge to Employment Counselor Mallory Thorne. “We’ll do a poetry reading or poetry slam. we’re going to have kind of an open mic style celebration for people to come and share their art and whatever way that looks for them.”

Bridge to Employment also provides job readiness training, career planning and goal setting.
