Tacky, Classy Holiday Décor Deck the Halls at Glensheen Mansion

The Inaugural Tacky Christmas Display is Now Open at Glensheen Mansion in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. – When it comes to decorating the historic Glensheen Mansion for the holiday season we think extravagant trees, classic ornaments and hundreds of feet of garland.

But this year, that’s all changing, at least outside the mansion.

This year, in addition to the 25 Christmas trees inside the mansion, Glensheen is bringing the Christmas cheer outside, too.

The Glensheen Christmas experience will also feature an intentionally tacky outdoor light display on the estate.

Complete with 62 snowmen, eight bears, three beavers, three sharks, two foxes, one unicorn, one Santa band, one yeti, and one elf car.

Visitors can also expect to spot sharks and a unicorn as part of this year’s Great Glensheen Outdoor Tacky Christmas Display.

Staff with Glensheen are describing the display as a tacky ‘Mini-Bentleyville’, which is intended.

Marketing Manager Jane Pederson tells FOX 21, Bentleyville was encouraging when Glensheen approached them with the new outdoor display idea because, it gives their visitors additional Christmas activities to enjoy while in Duluth for the holiday season.

Glensheen Director, Dan Hartman says, “What I love about this display, is that it breaks down one of the barriers of Glensheen, which is the overly formal stereotype of house museums. This display helps everyone feel welcome at Glensheen and that is something I know the Congdons would support.”
