Finnish National Day Celebrates Culuture

February 28 marks Kalevala Day which celebrates Finnish culture. 

DULUTH, Minn. – February 28 marks Kalevala Day which celebrates Finnish culture.

This year the Kalevala celebration was held on Sunday at the Kenwood Lutheran Church in Duluth.

Finnish people from all over the area came together to honor their heritage with Finnish food, songs, and even skits.

“I am 100% Finnish, my mother was born and raised in Finland , my parents were married in Finland, my dad is also Finnish but born on the Iron Range,” said Arlene Putikka-Tucker an organizer of Kalevala Day 2019.

The day of celebration also honored the flag and even featured the Finnish national anthem.
