Community Gathers at Brighton Beach to View Proposed Improvements

The new trail alignment would promote safety of those using the pathway.

DULUTH, Minn. – The community gathered at Brighton Beach on Monday to learn about potential improvements to the park and give their own input on those plans.
Duluth Parks and Recreation was on hand with maps to discuss the proposed Lakewalk extension.

The new trail alignment would promote safety of those using the pathway.

The department has already secured funding and the plans need to be finalized this fall.

A representative from the Parks and Recreation department spoke about where the money is coming from.

“A lot of the trails and funding is very very different than the money that goes to pay for road improvements. So just to note that the trail project is federal funds that are only available for trails,” said Lisa Luokkala, the Assistant Parks Manager for the City of Duluth.

The proposed trail plans will be available Tuesday on the City of Duluth’s website.
