UMD Installs New Sculpture

DULUTH, Minn. – UMD installed a nearly 6000 pound abstract sculpture next to the new Heikkila Chemistry and Advanced Materials Science building on campus.

The sculpture is called Polytropos and it was created by an artist who is based in Atlanta named Maria Artemis.

“In an age where in so many ways we are devisive and people seem to be at each others throats to have a place of beauty and rest that encourages people to rest and come together that’s a good thing,” said Jim Klueg, the chair of UMD’s art selection committee.

Later this month, UMD will also be installing four colored glass panels for the other side of the building.
