UMD Volleyball to Open Conference Play at Home
The Bulldogs will take on Upper Iowa on Friday and Winona State on Saturday.
DULUTH, Minn. – It’s going to be a busy weekend for college sports in Duluth, but the best show might be inside Romano Gym as the UMD volleyball return to their home court.
The 4th-ranked Bulldogs are currently 7–1 with their only loss coming against Cal State-San Bernadino, the top team in the country. But now it’s time to take on the NSIC, which has eight teams ranked in the top 25 in the country.
“People know that our conference is one of the best in the country, if not the best, seeing that many teams are ranked. Our region is so competitive and people know that you have to compete in our region. Once you get through that, you might have it easier, but probably not once you get further than that,” senior setter Emily Balts said.
“Our first weekend, our combined opponents are 16-0. Next weekend, they’re 13-3. It’s ridiculously challenging, but it’s also what makes it fun. It’s also why it’s fun to come watch. You get to see high-level competition regardless of opponent,” said head coach Jim Boos.
The Bulldogs will kick things off against Upper Iowa Friday at 6 p.m., then take on Winona State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
