28 Year-Old Man Gets 12 Years in Prison for Sexually Assaulting Child

ITASCA CO., Minn. – Cody Michael Porter, 28, was sentenced to twelve years in prison for felony first degree criminal sexual conduct.

Porter is from Wheeling, West Virginia.

He initially was charged with four counts of felony first degree criminal sexual conduct.

When Porter pleaded guilty to one felony charge on October 7th, the rest were dropped. The Itasca County Attorney explained that this is per Minnesota’s sentencing laws.

The criminal complaint said Porter sexually assaulted an 11 year-old girl during a family vacation in Bigfork, Itasca County, when Porter was dating the girl’s aunt at the time. The sexual assault happened at the end of July.

Another child, a 13 year-old who is cousins with the other victim, said that Porter had sexually abused her for two years while he was dating her mom in West Virginia. The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office reported the sexual assaults to West Virginia authorities.

Porter will register as a predatory offender and will be on a minimum conditional release period for 10 years after he has served his sentence.
