Red Curtains Go Up In Downtown Storefront Windows

The winning storefront will be announced on December 5th.

DULUTH, Minn. – Many Superior Street businesses are welcoming the holidays by putting up red curtains.

This is part of the annual Storefront Window Display and Lighting contest in Duluth hosted by the greater downtown council.

More than 15 businesses along superior street will take part in this year’s contest.

Those businesses will spend all week decking out their windows.

Until the cat can be let out the bag the curtains will stay closed to help keep the displays a secret.

“Who doesn’t get in the holiday spirit when they see Santa, and see all these beautiful decorations,” said Greater Downtown Council Event Coordinator. “Everybody is creating and decorating for a festive and enjoyable place to be.”

For the first time Fannie Rose Candy Shop will take part in the contest.

The General Manager says now that Superior Street has reopened, the contest will help visitors to learn more about the small businesses that sit along Superior Street.

“Some of the shops on Superior Street you might walk by otherwise. A window display you can see not only the holiday spirit, but you might look into the window of the store and see something you never thought of getting before,” said Holly Vanderport.

The great unveiling will take place at Hucklebeary on Friday, just before the Christmas City of the North Parade.

Visitors to downtown can vote on their favorite holiday window.

Those who vote will also be entered for a chance to win a prize.

Judges will also weigh in on the contest.

The winning storefront will be announced on December 5th.
