2019 Was Busiest Year Ever for St. Louis County Rescue Squad

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minn. – The St. Louis County Rescue Squad says 2019 was the busiest year in its 61-year history.

The Rescue Squad posted on Facebook that its members ran 542 missions in 2019, eclipsing the previous record by more than a hundred.

In the woods, the squad ran a record 154 missions, consisting of 80 searches, 69 rescues, 2 plane crashes, and 2 rope rescue operations.

On the road, it responded to a record 188 motor vehicle accidents, performed 15 heavy extractions, and led 11 remote helicopter landing zones.

On the water, the squad responded on 99 operations. It assisted in 12 water fatality recoveries, and recorded 20 “saves” where a critical difference was made in the life or severe hardship of others.

Rescue Squad members volunteered for 28,093 hours in 2019, crushing the squad’s previous record by nearly 3,000.
