DULUTH, Minn. – If you have a fear of talking in front of a group of people, you are not alone…but a group called Toastmasters is here to help.
Clapping…handshakes..and time cards…It’s a matter of taking steps out of your comfort zone to speak in front of an audience.
“I wasn’t ever really comfortable speaking and I had a story that I wanted to share and I had a few different organizations that asked me to share my story and I looked online to look for a way to improve my speaking skills and found toastmasters,” said Vice President of Membership Katy Hursh.
Duluth Toastmasters is a speech club that focuses on giving both prepared and impromptu speeches. The club gives members a chance to give and to evaluate speeches and it allows an opportunity for members to gain confidence in their speaking abilities.
“Duluth toastmasters is a place where people can come and share their story and also gain the confidence to share with other things that are important to them and it strengthens our community so it’s a wonderful outlet,” said Hursh.
There are more than 16,800 Toastmasters International Clubs in 143 countries.
Duluth Toastmasters celebrated its 65th anniversary last year, and now, members will be holding an open house on March 12th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Duluth Public Library in the Green Room.
